In her new video for "Gone Baby Gone, Don't Be Long", Erykah Badu is seen going through a futuristic assembly line. Director Flying Lotus teamed up with graphic designer/animator Beeple to create the blueprint-inspired video.

This very imaginative and creative video, really makes you think what Erykah Badu had in mind when creating it. I've always appreciated how Erykah Badu, makes us think. There's always so much meaning behind her videos. What do you think of the new video? Isn't this song amazing?! "Gone Baby Gone, Don't Be Long" is the latest single to be released from Erykah Badu's latest album "New Amerykah Part II: Return of the Ankh".

Erykah Badu Connects with her Fans

Erykah Badu loves meeting with her fans and she has been doing so after all her shows for the past 13 years. “After each show I have a meet and greet and I’ve been doing it for 13 years and the audience comes backstage and we talk,” Badu tells [The Vine]. “We talk about what’s going on in that city, what’s going on in the world, in our hearts, in our minds, in our spirits, and that’s when I get to know the people and they get to know me. And it’s been happening for a very long time.

She also embraces social networks such as Facebook and Twitter to stay in touch and communicate with her fans. “I feel connected that way and I also feel connected social networking – because they real people, they’re not pretend people, even if they’re hiding behind, you know, a digital alias,” she says. “And I enjoy social networking a lot, I feel the social networking is social evolution. We get to really evolve and share as people.”

Erykah Badu will perform with Prince for The Goss-Michael Foundation on February 4th in Dallas, in a soiree called "The Event". Proceeds will go to The Goss-Michael Foundation.

Get your tickets to "The Event" and participate in a great cause here.

It will be the first time since Erykah Badu will be back since her controversial video shot in Dallas, titled "Window Seat". The song is simply beautiful and the video is very creative, it takes someone like Erykah Badu to pull it off. It created talks, debates, and it challenged our minds.

Erkyah Badu Challenges “Window Seat” Charge

Erykah Badu has pleaded not guilty to a disorderly conduct charge for her video “Window Seat”. In the music video, Erykah Badu was walking around the Dallas' Dealey Plaza while stripping down bare naked.
Many residents, including children saw Erykah Badu shooting the video and some thought it was inappropriate. However, no one called the police to place a complaint, until the video became a huge viral sensation.

One witness complained to officers and said: “She and her two small children were offended”. This complaint lead to a class C misdemeanour charge, which led to a $500 fine. Badu, refused to pay the $500 and decided to stand up for her right to shoot the video exactly the way she did.

Dallas officials are seeking to use “Window Seat” to apply changes to the city’s “no permit necessary” laws for video shoots.

Erykah Badu’s Video, Did She Go Too Far?

Erykah Badu reveals that she had hoped to be arrested for her new video “Window Seat” in downtown Dallas to make a “bigger message”. The police didn’t notice the film crew, and therefore didn’t do anything. However, she might get charged for disorderly conduct, which would basically give her a $500 fine if found guilty.

The video has provoked a lot of controversy as it was made at the same place where John F. Kennedy was shot, in broad day light in front of children. Here are some remarks made about “Window Seat”:

"It is not just about the nudity — it is also about where she decided to film this piece of junk....and then to include the gun shot....it was very disrespectful. ... she did this with no regard for anyone else but herself." – thm, the Dallas Morning News site, March 30th

"I think Erykah Badu is brilliant. That video was the deepest, most sincere, undeniably real video I've ever seen. EVER." –Tyeastia, CNN.com March 31st

"Sorry. I appreciate the statement and the thought behind the video, and I'm also a huge Badu fan. That said, the nudity and subsequent mock assassination? With the children present? Sorry, I'm not feeling it." –Shola Akinnuso, The Root, March 30th

And here are Erykah’s thoughts on her new video:

“It is a little controversial. I guess people would say that in the video I shed a lot of emotion and a lot of baggage by way of shedding clothing. And I do this in the middle of a busy street, which is totally probably something that is not accepted in society. Thus, definitely not conforming to what society would expect you to do and because . . . I guess 85% of the world is a part of what we would call Groupthink, that's like a form of thinking that causes you to bury what you really feel inside to please the group so that you won't be ostracized by the group. It's a comfort zone we create for ourselves and I go outside of that comfort zone and the video says everything. It's open for discussion”.

In my opinion Erykah has a a good point, and really had guts to take off all her layers and focus on Groupthink. We don’t really think about it, but it’s true we do try to please people, and then consequently refrain from being ourselves.

Erykah Badu didn’t go too far at all, she did it at the right time and right place. By doing so people are more aware of her message.

New Erykah Badu Video – Window Seat

Erykah Badu’s new video for “Window Seat” just premiered a few hours ago, and it already might be raising some question marks. The song is beautiful as is Erykah, it basically shows how she walks through Dallas while taking off layers of her clothes until she is completely naked. I won’t spoil the end, check it for yourselves.

If you’d like to understand the video better, have a look at the lyrics for “Window Seat” below. Also, don’t forget that “New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh” will be released on Tuesday.

Erykah Badu – Window Seat lyrics:
so, presently i’m standing
here right now
you’re so demanding
tell me what u want from me
concluding
concentrating on my music , lover , and my babies
makes me wanna ask the lady for a ticket outta town…
so can i get a window seat
don’t want nobody next to me
i just want a ticket outta town
a look around
and a safe touch down
window seat
don’t want nobody next to me
i just want a chance to fly
a chance to cry
and a long bye bye..
but i need u to want me
need you to miss me
i need your attention
i need you next me
i need someone to clap for me
i need your direction
somebody say come back
come back baby come back
i want u to need me
come back come back baby come back
come back come back baby come back
come back come back baby come back
so, in my mind i’m tusslin’
back and forth ‘tween here and hustlin’
i don’t wanna time travel no mo
i wanna be here
i’m thinking
on this porch i’m rockin’
back and forth light lightning hopkins
if anybody speak to scotty
tell him beam me up..
so can i get a window seat
don’t want nobody next to me
i just want a ticket outta town
a look around
and a safe touch down
window seat
don’t want nobody next to me
i just want a chance to fly
a chance to cry
and a long bye bye..
but i need you to miss me
need somebody come get me
need your attention
need your energy yes i do
need someone to clap for me
need your affection
somebody say come back
come back baby come back
i want u to need me
come back come back baby come back
come back come back baby come back
come back come back baby come back
but can i get a window seat
don’t want nobody next to me
i just want a ticket outta town
a look around
and a safe touch down…
i just need a chance to fly
a chance to cry
and a long
bye bye……..

Erykah Badu Performs Window Seat

The lovely and beautiful Erykah Badu is everywhere these days promoting her soon to be released album “New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh”. This week, she appeared on The Wendy Williams Show, some say that she looked like Rick James, but we say she looked and sounded super funkalicious!

Last week she unveiled the cover art of her new album, and explained the meaning behind it: “With Part One, I was standing at an apex, looking at what was going on around me politically, socially, and economically,” Erykah explains. “With Part Two, I’m hovering over me, looking at what’s going on inside of me.” (read more about it here).

A new track titled “Turn Me Away” (Get MuNNy) leaked this week, fans are at the edge of their seat for the release of her new album on March 30th!

Erykah Badu Explains Inspiration Behind Album Artwork

The cover art for NEW AMERYKAH PART TWO is a collaboration between ERYKAH BADU and famed artist and poster designer EMEK, who also designed the inspired packaging for 2008’s New Amerykah Part One: 4th World War. The new album cover depicts an underwater image of BADU wearing a suit of armor that symbolizes the tough exterior she developed to protect herself from the harsh realities of life. The armor is her old shell and now she’s liberating herself from it by climbing out of her own head so that she can be reborn. Her tuning fork is summoning the vibrations of the universe and the purple-colored tree of life and purple sky represent the 7th Chakra—the Crown Chakra right above her third eye shield, which represents peace, wisdom, and spirituality. The numerical theme of three is symbolized by three moons, three hidden babies, three trees, and three ankhs. Closer inspection reveals that BADU’s shoulders are surrounded by many of the same objects that filled her abstract afro on the cover of New Amerykah Part One, including handcuffs, a foreclosed home, fast food, cigarettes, broken chains, and a military tank. Here, those items represent refuse and rubble from which new life grows into a vibrant garden of colorful flowers blossoming all around her.

“Working with ERYKAH always brings out the best in me,” says EMEK. “I have worked with hundreds of bands and I have to say that she is pretty unique. The amount of time and energy she spends on all aspects of her life. She is very creative and hands-on, but she also respects and encourages the creativity in others.”

In keeping with the concept of the cover art, NEW AMERYKAH PART TWO: RETURN OF THE ANKH taps into BADU’s emotional side by thematically focusing on romance and relationships. “With Part One, I was standing at an apex, looking at what was going on around me politically, socially, and economically,” BADU explains. “With PART TWO, I’m hovering over me, looking at what’s going on inside of me.”

Erykah Badu To Perform 'Window Seat' on Jimmy Fallon TONIGHT!

Multi-platinum-selling, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter-actress ERYKAH BADU will kick off a run of TV appearances tonight, March 3, on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon with a performance of “Window Seat,” the lead single from her forthcoming album NEW AMERYKAH PART TWO: RETURN OF THE ANKH, which will be released by Universal Motown Records on March 30th.

Badu has also announced upcoming television appearances on The Wendy Williams Show (March 25), Good Day New York (March 26), Jimmy Kimmel Live (March 30), The Wanda Sykes Show (April 3), Chelsea Lately (April 5), and The Mo’Nique Show (TBA).

Now available at iTunes and Amazon.com, “Window Seat” has already been heating up airwaves. The single is the No. 1 most-added track at Urban AC Mediabase and Urban AC R&R, and the No. 1 Greatest Gainer on the BDS Urban AC chart.

“Window Seat” was co-produced by Erykah Badu and James Poyser on keys with Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson from The Roots on drums. With lyrics like, “Can I get a window seat? / Don’t want nobody next to me / I just wanna take it out of town / A look around / And a safe touch down,” Okayplayer.com hails it as a “mellowed out anthem” for frequent flyers. Rolling Stone magazine says it’s “a smoothly schizophrenic quiet-stormer.” And Vibe.com describes the infectious single as “a throwback soul groove that’s driven by a live jazz bassline (a theme throughout NEW AMERYKAH PART TWO) that could have been plucked straight off [1997’s] Baduizm.”

NEW AMERYKAH PART TWO: RETURN OF THE ANKH features contributions from some of the most talented, groundbreaking, underground producers and engineers in the hip-hop game, including 9th Wonder, Madlib, James Poyser, Sa-Ra’s Shafiq Husayn, Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Jah Born, R.C. Williams, Ta’Raach, Karriem Riggins, and the late J Dilla. “We used a lot of analog instruments—harps, strings, drums, piano, and even a Theremin—to give the album that sonic feel,” said Badu. “There’s a strong undercurrent of bottom, a rumbling to these songs that feels good to me. It feels like a hug.”
